Ayurveda dietary rules

In Ayurveda the food is recommended on the basis of constitution of the person and imbalance of Doshas involved. According to Ayurvedic theory oily food or food fried in oil or Ghee is very necessary for a person suffering from Vata disorder. Dried food, leafy salads etc. if given to Vata person, it can aggravate the symptoms of Vata person.In other words all type of salads are not good for all people.

Food Guidelines for Vata

Vata people tend to suffer from nervous tension and variable digestive fire (agni). Their meals must be warm, heavy, moistening and strengthening. Preferred tastes are sweet, sour and salty. Pungent, bitter and astringent foods are not recommended; hot spices are good for regulating appetite. Meals should be taken in small portions, frequently and regularly. Fast food, junk food and instant food should be avoided. Television, reading or other forms of distraction should be avoided during the meals.

Food Guidelines for Pitta

Pitta people diet should be cooling, light, dry or little heavy. Preferred tastes are sweet, bitter and astringent. Sour, salty, fried and overcooked foods are not recommended. Three meals a day are sufficient, and they should remain emotionally calm and thankful.
No meals should be taken after 7 p.m.
